Austis
has a very old origin. It is a must to visit the nuraghe
Istecori and the Giant’s Tomb.
The centre is of roman origin. The emperor Augustus, from which the name
of the place derives – sent his men to set up a military check point to
maintain control over the rebellious population.
It is a must to visit Our
Lady of the Assumption, built in 1567 and the beautiful country church
of Saint Antonio from Padua
dating back from 1669.
In
residence houses of Austis there are many old working instruments of
Sardinian handicraft.
Excursions in the territory of Austis. The
landscape is particularly various and rich. Mediterranean flora is
abundant and various. The stones engraved
for century by the
weather present to the eyes
of the admirers many fanciful shapes. That’s the case with fascinating
“Sa Crabarissa’, which has a shape of a girl. There are many other
strange and spectacular stones : the one with a shape of an eagle, in a
place called Sa Conca De Su
Cannizzu, and the perforated stone
called Su Nou Pertuntu. The
most attractive sight throughout Austis territory is Su
Nou Orruendecche, a gigantic rock that looks frightfully unbalanced,
but is only an appearance verified several times.
Farm holidays – Gastronomy and Accommodation. Austis
has four farm tourist resorts and one hotel with traditional food.
